Design Your Own Special Class!

Quilt Passions will be happy to design a class to YOUR specifications.

It’s simple. Gather 2 friends and yourself who want the same class, a good time of day for all of you and call Karen to schedule it! We will then find a qualified instructor for your class. Costs will vary according to prep time and length of class. Schedule availability will vary between other classes. Once the class is set, it will be opened to other students.

Karen and her staff are also available for guild or club meetings or workshops. So please stop by or call.
.

Tip of the Month:  Selecting Fabrics

 Look for a balance between the fabrics, keeping whites yellows and extra bright colors interspersed evenly. Use enough of an accent color so it doesn’t look like an accident but makes the quilt sparkle.

 Really look at the pattern you’ve chose to use. It will call for certain fabrics or one certain fabric to help you chose the rest of the fabrics. When doing a star pattern, use dark colors for the star especially the point so they stand out.

 Be sure to stack your fabrics, step back and squint your eyes to see if the colors will blend well.

 When you find a good light color of fabric, but a year or two as it’s harder to find lights. Buy a mixture of large prints, small prints, and color values.

 Chose a fabric with more than one color in it, a focus fabric. Then you can chose fabrics to highlight colors from your focus fabric. Be sure to add a different color to accent the colors of your quilt.

Quilt Guilds/Groups

Aloha Quilters of Kona is composed of quilters working in both traditional and Hawaiian styles. This group meets informally for about 2 hours the THIRD Saturday of each month, except November and December, at Christ Church, Episcopal (Wallace Hall), on Konaweana High School Road in Kealalekua. The meeting starts at 9:30 a. m. We share old and new ideas and techniques to promote the art of quilting in the community. New members and visitors, whether novice quilters or "old hands" are welcome. Often, there is a demonstration of a new quilting technique held after the regular meeting. Bring something for “show & tell”. For more information call Dawn Castelli at 322-7962.
.
SKEA Fiber Arts meets the SECOND Wednesday of every month, at the SKEA (Society for Kona’s Education & Art), on Hwy 11 in Honaunau. Time is 10 a. m. to 2 p. m. Bring a lunch, ideas for projects, show and tell items, something to work on, a sewing machine (with extension cord) if you wish. Be there or be square—or both! Open to everyone, the cost is a $5.00 per-meeting contribution to SKEA. For more information call Catherine Wynne at 328-8848 or Annabelle Treacy at 322-0710.
.
Mauna Kea Quilters, started in 1997, are a group of patchwork quilters who enjoy sharing our love of quilting with others and helping our community. Each year we donate many quilts to help raise money for worthwhile organizations such as Malalai (The Culinary Garden of Waimea Middle School) and Relay for Life. We have provided quilts to the police/fire department and North Hawaii Community Hospital for those in need. We welcome you to join us for our monthly meetings on the 2nd Saturday of the month from 9:30am to Noon in the meeting room of the Thelma Parker Memorial Library in Waimea. We always have a business meeting, show and tell and we try to have a demonstration or class at each meeting as well. For more information call Becky Parkinson at 937 2159.
